Did you know that one in four children has a vision problem? That statistic may surprise you, but it’s true. And if left untreated, those vision problems can lead to difficulties in school and in life. That’s why it’s so important for parents to make sure their children receive regular eye exams.
According to the American Optometric Association (AOA), infants should have their first comprehensive eye exam at 6 months of age. Children then should receive additional eye exams at 3 years of age and just before kindergarten or first grade at about age 5 or 6. A child who cannot see will have trouble learning. Good vision is important for child development.
